| Über: | Lawrence Mynott was born in London, England, in 1954. He studied art at the Chelsea School of Art from 1972 to 1976 and then illustration at the Royal College of Art from 1976 to 1979.
Mynott has worked as a freelance illustrator specializing in figurative work, portraiture and fashion. His work has appeared in many British publications including Tatler, Vogue, Harpers & Queen, the Observer and Radio Times. In France, he has contributed to La Mode en Peinture and Madame Figaro.
He has also designed numerous book jackets, particularly for Penguin Books. He was awarded the 1984 Designers and Art Directors Silver Award for the best series of book jackets.
Mynott has held two one-man portraiture shows at the Cale Gallery in London.
Whether his subject is bathing belles or the latest suit from Chanel, Mynott brings a whimsical touch to his allusive drawings, be they a witty homage to Jean Cocteau or a glamorous emulation of the 50's high style of Rene Gruau. He has illustrated the creations of most of the major fashion designers such as Hermes, Comme des Garcons, Rifat Ozbek, Yves St. Laurent, Emanuel Ungaro, Karl Lagerfeld, and Christian Lacroix.
Mynott occasionally writes humourous articles in the fashion magazines such as Tatler and Harper's Bazaar.
He now lives in Tangier, Morocco with his wife Anthea. |
