the designers
Anna Molinari was born in the 50’s Capri, Italy. Her mother was her teacher and her muse, inspiring her with a love for making clothes, and teaching her stitching techniques.
She and her husband Gianpaolo Tarabini established her label in 1977. At that time, she opened a house which produced knitwear, a selection of which remains in her collections in the form of sweater-girl shapes, sometimes trimmed with diamante. Later, with the help of Italian fashion designer MOSCHINO, Anna Molinari began designing other garments, developing a look of edgy romanticism. She creates sexy clothes, often using a formula that combines brief hemlines and sheer fabrics. In so doing, she takes the clothes off the street and into the realm of designer clothing.
She has a second line called Blumarine, for the younger clientele.
Her daughter Rossella Tarabini now oversees the Anna Molinari collections. She was born in 1968 and studied in Paris and London before taking over the design for the family house in 1995. Anna Molinari's son Gianguido looks after the Menswear lines.

the label
The Blumarine brand name is born from Anna Molinari’s and her husband, Gianpolo Trabini’s passion fort eh sea and fort he colour blue: in 1977, in a small town named Carpi, the couple takes on the challenge of building the Blumarine company, with the intent of crating collections inspired from the young, enterprising, designer’s creativity.
The project is a winner: in 1980 the Blumarine brand makes its debut at the Modit in Milan, it is a great success; followed, in 1981, by the first fashion show during fashion week in Milan. In 1986, a collection wholly designer by Anna Molinari makes its debut at Milano Collezioni, the widespread approval stems further development of the company.
In 1987, the new girls-collection, Miss Blumarine is born and ensues in the licensing phenomenon, harnessing the true potential of the Blumarine brand in various sectors.
In 1988, Blumarine decides to change the company profile and becomes a joint-stock company named Blufin: sole director, Gianpaolo Tarabini, now supported by his son, Gianguido, as head of the licensing department. The transformation of Blumarine’s image, and the opening of the first single-brand boutique in Via della Spiga are some of the highlights of the nineties.
In 1995, the Blumarien line is joined by a new line, Anna Molinari, designed by Rossella Tarabini, Anna Molinari’s daughter. This same year, another line, Blugirl, is born; designed by Anna Molinari; it is a ready-to-wear line for girls and young woman, infused with a toch of irony and joie de vivre with a clearly romantic vein. Blugir makes its debut at Milano Collezioni in 2002, with great success: this collection expresses an ideal femininity that perfectly reflects the spirit of the Blumarine collection, readapted with great creativity and imagination.
The development of targeted marketing strategies and the early intuition of entrusting the brand’s advertising image to renowned fashion photographers, greatly contributed to the success of the Blufin collections. Following the collaboration with photographers Gianpaolo Barbieri and Alvert Watson, Blufin begins its artistic partnership with Helmut Newton, crating advertising campaigns of strong emotional impact, which gratly contributed to the definition of the brand’s image. After Newton, the artistic collaboration continues with Ellen Von Unwerth, Tim Walker, Inez and Vinood Matadin, alongside great top models such as Naomi Campbell, Nadja Auermann, Carré Otis, Carla Bruni and Monica Bellucci.
Blufin grows at a staggeringly fast pace, opening stores worldwide, always maintaining its high quality standards by keeping all production in Italy: its distribution network, created through select partnerships, is composed today, of over one thousand retail outlets worldwide of which 55 are sinole-brand shops.
