An understanding of proportion and simplicity are intrinsic design elements in Cassius Eyewear.

Founded in 2008 as an independent eyewear brand, Cassius Eyewear is a modern extension of a look and attitude from the 1960’s and 70’s. Founder and creative director, Jason Ng, was inspired by such disparate influences as the Bauhaus movement, Brooklyn – N.Y. through the eyes of photographer Jamel Shabazz, a Mondrian painting executed in plain mathematical clarity, the organic geometry of a honeycomb wax cell and 20th century systems for scale and architectural proportion.

“The idea of paying homage to classic silhouettes, whilst redefining it with a modern twist for the 21st century appeals to me,” explains Ng. “I’m drawn to modernism: clean, linear, timeless design and work that is superfluous of unnecessary decoration. Cassius Eyewear is a reflection of my methodical nature, and the way I see the world and everything in it.”

By focusing on shape and form, as well as the belief that a logo should be discreet, Cassius Eyewear allows the frames to define the look and feel of the range and brand. This principle encompasses everything Cassius Eyewear presents to its customers – from the sharp, clean lines of the eyewear, to the tangram inspired logo and uncomplicated packaging. Ng concurs that restraint is exercised and perfection achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

It is this thoughtful attention to detail that can be seen in Cassius Eyewear’s range of pared back, well balanced frames that feature subtle detailing and combine the functional with the sublime. Blurring the lines between masculine and feminine with its largely unisex designs, each frame utilizes the most advanced production techniques with traditional bespoke methods. Cassius Eyewear is handcrafted in limited editions from premium acetate and metal, and fitted with the highest quality lenses bearing a rating of UV 400 – conforming to Australian, European and U.S. standards. This ensures that in addition to detail, finish and functionality, Cassius Eyewear complies with the most stringent of international technical standards.

Today Cassius Eyewear is a surreptitious by-word for cool, immediately recognizable by its classic contours, subdued branding and retro overtones. Despite having already graced the faces of some of the most influential celebrities shaping this generation, the brand has stayed “under the radar”. Forgoing high profile advertising campaigns and celebrity endorsements, Cassius Eyewear remains focussed on its loyal customers – those who have their finger on the pulse and who appreciate simplicity, individuality and essentially quality.
